Big the Cat has been making major waves in the local music scene of Charlotte, NC. The band was founded by singer/songwriter Reed O’Neal and guitarist Zac Byrd in 2021 after years of friendship between the duo. The two had met previously at a tattoo shop when O’Neal received his first of many pieces from Byrd. During the session, they chatted about their shared love of rock and hip hop music and teased that they should make music together one day. That day arrived after many more hangouts and tattoos when the pair finally sat down and wrote their first song together (now titled ‘Seasons’).
Since that initial studio session, there has been nothing short of electricity between O’ Neal and Byrd, now having written and recorded their first EP ‘Porcelain’ along with dozens of other eclectic songs. After honing their feel-good, inspiring sound, Big the Cat recruited other talented band members and took to the stage in the summer of 2023, playing Main Stage at both Charlotte Pride ’23 & Asheville Pride ’23. In current days, the pair are gearing up to release their first full length album titled ‘Vermillion’. The album will be a mixed bag of styles, featuring heavy rock, disco and dance, and even cowboy folk tales.
